I think this is spot on. If higher education's budget is to be cut, LSU needs to set priorities. I think cutting funds across the board on all programs shows a lack of necessary decision making regarding what programs are of the most value to the university.
Agreed, Stephanie. While LSU's powerhouse athletic program generates enormous revenues for the university, when do students enjoy the academic benefits of such successes? We all love a powerful football team or a basketball team that can wow us with Harlem Globetrotter-esque slam-dunks. But, when the elevators in our Honors College dorms don't work, there is a serious issue to be addressed. Students should be attending college to learn, and when the university continually places the emphasis on the wrong parts of college life, it is evident that they also have no regard for tuition dollars, tax dollars, etc. It shows a general disrespect for the education industry, as well as the inability to discern what is best for the university as a whole.
In light of Louisiana's potential budget cuts on higher education, this is a forum to discuss different opinions and ideas and to share information about what is to come and help SAVE OUR SCHOOLS.
